Directions
The easiest way to find us is to go to Google Maps and get directions to "Tawney Farm, Summersville, WV". Also, feel free to call us!
The Gauley River Wild & Woolly Campground's coordinates are 38.226860, -81.006077 bordering the Gauley River National Recreation Area, but don't rely on a GPS or Siri to get you here. They don't recognize that a lot of the County Roads in West Virginia are not passable and you may go down a goat path. Here are some examples: If your GPS tells you to take Vinton Road, IGNORE IT and continue on to Panther Mountain Road. Vinton Road is much too rough for a vehicle. Also when you turn onto Panther Mountain Road, your GPS may change the name of the road to Tipton Road or Griffin Road. Ignore it and continue on Panther Mountain Road (County Route 22). FROM RT. 19 and anyone coming from the North, South or East: From Rt. 19, take Rt. 129 West towards Summersville Lake and Dam. Watch your odometer and travel 9.9 miles towards Drennen. When you get to the town of Tipton, look for a church on a small hill on the left. Look for brown Park Service signs and a green road sign for Panther Mountain Road just past the church. Turn left onto Panther Mountain Road (County Route 22). (This left turn is easy to miss because it's in a curve. If you see a Sunoco gas station, you've missed the turnoff by only a mile.) The road is paved for about a mile then turns into a gravel road. Watch your odometer again and follow Panther Mountain Road for approximately 3.5 miles, going straight at the only fork in the road (in other words, DON'T turn left). After the fork in the road where you go straight, you'll pass by some old fields and eventually come upon Arnet Methodist Church where a tree grows in the middle of the road. You're almost there! Keep going down the hill, around a couple of curves and you'll see our sign on the right. Just follow the driveway up the hill and through the gate. FROM RTS. 60 and 39 and everyone else from the West: From Charleston, take I-64 E. to Exit 96. Follow Rt. 60 E. to Gauley Bridge (approx. 38 miles), then at Gauley Bridge take Rt. 39 East towards Summersville. Rt. 39 runs along with Rt. 16 but you will split from Rt. 16 at Belva approx. 5.5 miles from Gauley Bridge -- don't miss it!. Follow Rt. 39 for approx. 13 miles to Drennen. When you see the Sunoco station, turn right onto Rt. 129 East. Drive approximately 1 mile and turn right onto Panther Mountain Road (County Route 22 -- look for Park Service signs to Gauley River). This right turn is at the top of a small hill in a curve so drive slow so you don't miss it! The road is paved for about a mile then turns into a gravel road. Watch your odometer and follow Panther Mountain Road for approximately 3.5 miles, going straight (in other words, don't go left) at the only fork in the road. After the fork in the road where you go straight, you'll pass some old fields and an old farm house and you'll eventually come upon Arnet Methodist Church and a tree growing in the middle of the road. You're almost there! Keep going down the hill, around a few curves, and you'll see our sign on the right. Turn right and follow the driveway up the hill and through the gate.
